Shetler Studios TDG Internships 2008
The Studios & TDG
Shetler Studios is a theatrical complex comprising 20 upscale rental studios in the heart of New York’s Theatre District, offering a unique infrastructure that supports projects from audition through rehearsal to performance. The facility is widely recognized as a destination of choice for performances, auditions and rehearsals for a wide range of theatre, music and dance productions, from all sectors of the New York industry and across the nation.
Shetler Studios Theatrical Development Groups Corp., popularly known as TDG, is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization founded in 2003 as the resident producing company at Shetler Studios. TDG has as its mandate the direction and management of a total theatrical development environment within the studios’ remarkable infrastructure. TDG produces a diverse and dynamic program of performances, showcases, readings, workshops, seminars and video, all devoted to the development and promotion of new work and new artists. TDG has three divisions, each with a distinct focus: THE BRIDGE THEATRE COMPANY is dedicated to the development and production of new plays; STEPSTONE MEDIA explores new avenues for digital media, the internet and performance; and CONNECTIONS hosts a diverse program of industry workshops for the emerging actor.
The Internships
Internships at Shetler Studios TDG are designed to provide emerging entertainment professionals with an opportunity to further their understanding of the performing arts industry, gain exposure to industry contacts and resources, and develop their professional tools. Junior and Senior positions are available, organized into 12 week semesters. 2008 semesters are currently slated for June-August, and September-November. Each semester culminates with the presentation of a Showcase.
Admission to each semester is subject to an interview, or, in the case of a returning applicant, an evaluation. Interviews and evaluations are conducted by the Office Manager, Matthew Groff. Applicants should send resumes to Matthew@shetlerstudios.com, or deliver them to the below listed address.
Junior and Senior positions are determined at the beginning of each semester. Interns make a weekly commitment to the studios, assisting in various initiatives, in either Junior or Senior roles. In exchange for hours worked at the studios, interns receive credits that can be used to access various resources and events within the Shetler Studios TDG network. Intern credits can be exchanged for:
- Studio use
- Digital demo production by STEPSTONE MEDIA
- Industry workshops presented by CONNECTIONS
- Tickets for productions by THE BRIDGE THEATRE COMPANY
- Voice lessons with MR. RON SHETLER
The centerpiece of the intern program is the Showcase. Presented at the end of each semester as a celebration of the talents of the intern team, this event is supported, supervised and promoted by Shetler Studios, and mentored by a professional director from the TDG network.
The Showcase is coordinated by three Senior Interns, and all Junior Interns are welcome to participate. The concept and format for the Showcase varies from one semester to the next, determined by the desires and needs of each intern group. Shetler Studios provides 1 weekly meeting / rehearsal space, a performance venue for 2 nights, technical support, administrative infrastructure, and promotional assistance. A professional director from the TDG network is assigned to the group in the final weeks to mount the production.
The goals of the Showcase are to provide Shetler Studios interns with performance experience, production leadership training, exposure to the entertainment community at large, and a New York credit for the resume. Additionally, this Showcase is intended as an interface between the intern program and the leaders of TDG, and to this end, the TDG divisions will be represented at the Showcases.
